I slowly raised the revolver up to my head and pressed the cold steel against my temple.

“It doesn’t have to be like this!” My sister yelled at me. “It’s Billboard! Billboard hasn’t been relevant since the 70s!”

I knew she was right but I couldn’t see myself living in a world that would declare Nickelback as the top band of the decade.

She turned on KRock and they were playing Arcade Fire. I began to weep and I lowered the gun. We hugged each other and sighed in relief. I guess it was pretty ridiculous to consider suicide just because a silly publication listed Nickelback as band of the decade.

“Next up on KRock 6.90! Band of the decade!!!

“Look at this photograph, Everytime I do it makes me laugh.”

“Looks like we got a double suicide on our hands, chief.” Sargent Blakes said to the chief.

“Dammit, Blakes! When will Billboard learn!?” The chief cried as he removed his revolver from its holster.

Ugh, i don’t blame you.

THe subject of death seems to be floating around today

So I shall share a particular case that has still left me impacted.

His name was Greg - my sister’s boyfriend of 4 years. They decided to stop dating after he moved to Atlanta, but they still talked often and still had the deepest admiration for each other.

Greg, who would work on his car, who would always make me laugh and who would amaze at his abilities in mathematics, was undoubtedly a significant chapter in my sister’s life, and therefore in my family’s.

He had come back in town for his brother’s funeral - killed in a car crash leaving behind a wife and two children. He stopped by the house to pick up my sister and was welcomed by the people he hadn’t seen in a few months. He said he’d be back for the holidays or New Year’s and we’d see him again.

As he talked to me, a thought popped into my mind: Take a picture of your sister and him together. But I was too lazy and figured they were heading out to someplace to meet others and that I would get a picture next time. So I ignored the voice that repeated itself as I watched them go out to the car.

A few months later he killed himself.

My sister was miserable for days, weeks, months. But she has since learned to cope with the tragedy and move on happily. Greg shall forever be remembered as leaving a significant footprint in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
